Yep, we’ve started booking again and here’s what we have scheduled so far:

• Monday, Sept. 6th (Labor Day): CD Central Labor Day Cookout!  Music starts at 12 noon, we’ll be playing at 2pm.  They’ll be having a bunch of cheap CDs and vinyl for sale, so come out and enjoy.  The full list is: 12p Futonics, 1p Middlefork, 2p Prometheus, 3p Shemale Fiesta (flier below).
• Saturday, Sept. 11th:  Big Ed’s Pro Dirt Jump BMX Bash!  This one will be awesome!  It’s in Cincinnati, Oh and is being put on by my sponsor Misled Clothing.  The competition begins at 4p (practice at 12 noon) and I’ll be riding, so you’ll all get the chance to catch some kick ass dirt jumping and some melt-your-face-off music to follow!  Music will begin around 10p, and the line up is Prometheus (10p), Arlis Perry (11p), Dandelion Death (12p). (Flier also below.)
• Thursday, Sept. 23rd:  Buster’s Billiards and Backroom Open Mic.  It runs like a mini-Battle of the Bands with 3 winners per month moving on to finals in October & November.  This is one that we really need a good turn out as the winners are based off of crowd reaction so make sure your voices are good and warm so you can be loud as #&$*!  Winner of the night gets $100, winner of the series gets $1000 and of course bragging rights.  Music starts around 9pm and the order is determined on a first come basis.
• Saturday, Oct. 9th:  LexFest 2010 at Homegrown Hideaway.  Full day of music, art, food, and presumably drink.  Not sure about the times of the event, but each band will be allotted a number of tickets to sell.  More information on this one soon.

Finally, after this ridiculous hard drive fiasco, I am back to working on the mixes for the full length release of music by Prometheus.

There was a death in the hard drive family. Lots of lost data. No big deal(anymore). Lost all of the session data, so cheers to starting the mixing again from the beginning. Think positive.

I recently started reading Steven Pinker’s The Blank Slate: The Modern Denial of Human Nature and found this particular passage too wonderful to not share:

For millennia the gap between physical events, on the one hand, and meaning, content, ideas, reasons, and intentions, on the other, seemed to cleave the universe in two.  How can something as ethereal as “inciting hatred” or “wanting to speak to Cecile” actually cause matter to move in space?  But the cognitive revolution unified the world of ideas with the world of matter using a powerful new theory: that mental life can be explained in terms of information, computation, and feedback.  Beliefs and memories are collections of information–like facts in a database, but residing in patterns of activity and structure in the brain.  Thinking and planning are systematic transformations of these patterns, like the operation of a computer program.  Wanting and trying are feedback loops, like the principle behind a thermostat: they receive information about the discrepancy between a goal and the current state of the world, and then they execute operations that tend to reduce the difference.  The mind is connected to the world by the sense organs, which transduce physical energy into data structures in the brain, and by motor program, by which the brain controls the muscles.  (pg. 32)

                          

Our show following the dirt jumping competition in Cincinnati is being moved forward by one week to 9/11.  Hope everyone can adjust their schedule accordingly as the show will officially kick ass.  Almost as much ass as the comp itself!

Live and out of state!

That’s right, you all have patiently waited and now your dreams are coming true: Prometheus is performing live in Cincinnati, Oh on September 18th.  I’ll be riding in the dirt competition and then the band will be performing the after party headlined by the ever insane Dandelion Death .  The event will be hosted by Misled Clothing, Failure Bikes, SNAFU, and others.  Should be wild.

                          

Scientific American has a really cool interactive feature on their site highlighting one of their features in the June 2010 issue called 12 Events That Will Change Everything.  This one is definitely worth checking out.  Among the big 12 are:

• The discovery of higher dimensions (super symmetry can only serve it’s purpose if the universe operates in 10 dimensions)
• Human Cloning
• The synthesis of artificial life
• The discovery of Extraterrestrial Intelligence
• Nuclear war

Each category has a short write up on the whys, whats and whens, and also has the author give their opinion on the likelihood of such an event occurring.  Pretty fun way to waste some time.
