Earth Month 2024
Every April, Earth Month reminds us of our collective responsibility to protect the environment. Sustainable practices have always been the backbone of Earth Day, but adaptability has quickly become an equally critical goal. Originating from the environmental movement of the 1970s, Earth Month evolved from Earth Day. First observed on April 22nd, this celebration has grown into a global phenomenon, welcoming participants from across the globe. Individuals, communities, and governments mobilize each year to take action toward environmental conservation and climate mitigation, and we are eager to facilitate this great work in April, and year-round.

The Urgency of Climate Change
Climate change poses considerable challenges to our planet’s ecosystems, economies, and communities. Between rising temperatures, extreme weather events, melting ice caps, and rising sea levels, our planet is facing a multifaceted and complex crisis. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) warns us that without immediate – and substantial – action, the impacts of climate change will continue to intensify. Not only can this exacerbate food and water scarcity, but it also has the power to displace populations, put life and property at risk, and amplify the frequency and severity of natural disasters even further.
We must first acknowledge that climate change is not a distant threat, but a present reality. As communities around the world begin to experience its detrimental effects, we owe it to future generations to remain proactive and diligent. From small island nations grappling with sea-level rise to vulnerable coastal communities facing devastatingly intense hurricanes, the impacts of climate change are felt. How can we protect and defend the marginalized and disadvantaged populations who bear the brunt of these impacts?

It might feel daunting to imagine the size of the task at hand – can we truly make strides towards protecting communities and mitigating the impact of climate change? The answer is yes, and at Prometheus, we believe that it’s never too late to work toward building safer, stronger communities.
